Ethics. Let’s clear the rumour mill here.
1. Most have been approved.
2. Those that are level 3 have not.
Applications deemed level 3 means there is significant *ethical* risk and that for honours this is unwarranted. Personally of the ones I’ve seen at this level I’d agree with the ethics committee, the research is not compelling enough to outweigh the ethical risks involved.
Everyone who is not level 3, with one exception, has been approved. the one exception involved an application that pretty much ignored all the required protocols. If you don’t do what they ask, it will be rejected.
If you get a letter asking for minor changes this means you have approval, *and* you need to make these changes.
As I’ve tried to say all year, honours is not a year for *your* project, it is an academic year where you undertake research in an academic context. This is part of parcel of what it means to do research in a university.
