Americans may lead planet in working past retirement age
Heres an interesting footnote to our recent blog post “Will retirement-delaying baby boomers hog too many jobs?” …
According to a press release from the insurer Aviva, 57 percent of Americans now plan to keep working beyond their normal retirement age. Whats more, thats the highest percentage of any of the 10 countries Aviva surveyed. (The survey, conducted last October and November, covered China, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Singapore, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S.).
Does this testify to a resurgence in the American work ethic? Or is it just more evidence of how worried weve become about having enough money to retire? What do you think?
