Glory Whole: A Multimedia Exploration Of My Coming Of Womanhood.
Brooklyn (NY) artist, Sophia Wallace, created a mixed media project called CLITERACY that aims to educate people about female anatomy and sexuality. My interaction with CLITERACY was profoundly more informative and empowering than any sexual education class or conversation with my parents about sex. My investigation into female sexuality and ways that we educate ourselves, prompted further research into childhood development, womanhood and feminism. I have created a multimedia performance, Glory Whole, which is the telling my own coming of womanhood story. By telling my story I have interrogated the gaps in my sexual education and the lack of feminist discourse available to young women in Australia. I propose that young people need female sexual agency, positive female role models and women’s story telling, if there is to be any chance of equality.
